Recently opened at historic Gibbard Block, June’s Delicatessen combines minimalist style with creative dishes. It’s a deli that serves breakfast all day and starts serving lunch at 11 a.m. You’ll notice the bright decor long before you enter, since most of the cafe’s exterior is made up of windows. This abundance of light gives it an airy and spacious feeling. The range of options on the menu is diverse enough to satisfy most breakfast and lunch cravings, but isn’t too extensive. Some of the familiar items come with a creative twist — such as Corned Beef Hash, that comes with cabbage, crème fraîche and chives..
Try the Blintz, a buckwheat crepe filled with cottage cheese that’s served with apple butter and a combination of fresh fruit. The apple butter and fruit complement it well. It’s a great choice of dessert if you don’t favour things that are overwhelmingly sweet and sugary. For a cocktail, try the signature June’s Mimosa — the bright orange drink is made with Blanquette de Limoux and Chamberyzette.
