By the time I got my Mac N Cheese Soft Serve from Summerland Soft Serve’s little truck, I felt blessed that I changed my order for the ice cream to be served in a cup at the last minute. It wasn’t the hottest weather, but a generous amount of ice cream in a cone simply wouldn’t survive while I marched through the crowd at K-Days.
I’ve seen photos of the cheddar coloured Mac N Cheese Soft Serve on social media before. The idea of a double dairy flavoured ice cream truly spoke to me, and I imagined a strong, pungent flavour. So I was a bit surprised when the tender sweetness of the cream base hit me first.
“It doesn’t taste like Mac N Cheese,” I said. “Oh, wait a second, here it comes.”
My tongue and brain weren’t fast enough to distinguish the two dairy flavours, but it sure was a delightful surprise when the sharp cheddar flavour went out with a mellow aftertaste. Then I took another bite, sweet as it went in, with a slightly savoury cheese taste as it melted.
If you’re interested in comparing two flavours, or not sure about taking the risk of trying a new flavour, you can also ask for a split soft serve with two flavours in one cup. They also have traditional flavours like vanilla and chocolate.
But no matter which one you get, don’t forget to ask for a cup if you’re not the best licker.
