If you think the deadly amount of direct sunlight last week was able to stop me from marching down a few blocks to test out a new ice cream shop, you don’t know me.
Being a big fan of birthday cake flavoured ice cream means I was pre-determined to try the Tres Leches at Twice Cream. Inspired by the traditional Latin American cake, the cream coloured Tres Leches has a light, velvet-like sweet taste, and doesn’t need any sprinkles to shine. The bite-sized actual cake pieces also add a chewy texture to the scoop.
Like at many handmade ice cream shops in the town, you can get a single scoop split into two flavours at Twice Cream. As surprising as it was to me, the Maple Salted Butter Nut doesn’t have the strongest maple taste, but its slight savoury goes well with the milk taste in Tres Leches.
As I sat on the patio decorated with starry string lights, I licked through the dripping ice cream and took a bite on the housemade waffle cone. Despite its firm structure, the cone had a very thin crunchy crust. For those who crave barquillos, this cone is for you.
This newly opened ice cream shop in Westmount now features seven “forever” flavours that stay all-year round. And if you’d like to keep up with the rotating flavours, including the eye-catching Candied Fennel Passionfruit, you’re most likely to visit them more than twice.
