It’s one of those days where we are feeling really lazy, trailing off the burned end of a long, dry week. What better way to spice things up than with some Indian takeout?
Monsoon Bistro & Bar is right on the way for us, so we call ahead and get our order in as we leave headquarters. After taking the wrong turn and a bit of a detour (don’t you love the Whitemud?), we make it for a quick and easy pick-up. As the aroma fills the car, our appetites grow in anticipation.
Back at home, we throw on the TV, kick back and crack open our spoils, ready for a well-earned feast. There’s entertainment, cold drinks, and a lavish meal, so we feel quite kingly for a moment (I wonder if King Charles fancies takeout food?). Regardless, we start feeling less regal the moment we start gouging ourselves like hungry peasants.
The dahi kabab is a creamy, spicy delight that combines exceptionally rich paneer with yogurt, blended inside a croquette. It makes for great finger food, but we were still hungry for more after.
Our next appetizer is the shrimp pakora. It’s a prawn dish that packs some serious flavour. The spices match the savoury shellfish, and after being deep fried in gram flower, it ends up like a revved-up popcorn shrimp.
The capstone of this culinary endeavour is the Tandoor Masala Salmon, which has a smoky, spicy masala flavour with sweet and sour notes of ginger and garlic.
After all that spicy goodness, we feel re-invigorated, wide awake and perfectly satiated. Maybe we should be eating Indian takeout more often?
