When I scroll through Fn’za’s online menu, I am spoiled for choice. The new Jasper Avenue spot advertises itself as a spot for California style pizzas, and that means that anything and the kitchen sink could be considered as possible toppings. Do I go for the Japanese Barbecue Chicken, with yuzu sauce? Or a full-on Wild Mushroom pizza? The Californian has apple slices and goat cheese, and that sounds kinda interesting.
But, I am in a sour mood — and the Big Fn’ Dill is calling my name. It’s got cooked pickles. It’s got raw pickles. It’s got sliced potatoes and dill. And it’s all on a bed of mozzarella cheese and a garlic cream sauce.
When I open the box, I note the mathematical precision that’s at hand. The toppings are spaced out perfectly, and that means the pickles accentuate each and every bite. They’re never overpowering. The dill and cream sauce work so well together.
The best thing about this pizza, though, is the crust. Kudos to Fn’za for figuring out how to make a solid crust that doesn’t sag — perfect for keeping a slice steady in your hand as you’re writing an article. And, the crust has a nice roasted feel to it, without any burn spots. If you wanted to grab a slice out of the box without a napkin or a plate, you can get away with it.
It’s fun, it’s delicious and the 16-inch large size (Fn’za also makes 10-inch pies) means that there will likely be some in the refrigerator. Because nothing beats cold pizza for breakfast.
