So, whether you observe the holiday, or simply see it as a few days off, you can’t ignore that there’s going to be lot of chocolate found this Easter weekend. It’s not too late to find gifts for your kids, friends and, maybe most important of all, yourself.
At Edify, we salute those who want to indulge. Here’s some local chocolatiers who can add some panache to your Easter weekend. Or you could settle for the same hollow bunny that you get every year, that has that strange aftertaste that you only get from the mass-produced Easter chocolates, but we’d rather not.
Chocolate Escapade, located on Edmonton’s south side, has a Caramel Cookie Butter bunny for you or a loved one to munch on. Are you the sort of savage that gnaws the ears off, first? Order ahead.

Sure, the Easter Creme Eggs are great, but you can do so much better. How about a giant Easter egg from Jacek? The 320-gram egg sits on a chocolate base. The egg gives you all the good stuff — fudge, caramel and toffee. I’m just writing about it and I can feel my teeth sticking together.

“Honey, on the way home, can you pick up a carton of eggs?” This common ask could be taken in an entirely new direction with a carton of exquisite chocolate eggs from Sweet Lollapalooza. There are 25 eggs in a carton. That’s way better than a dozen regular eggs.

Morinville’s Au Chocolat fills a shell of Honduran chocolate with praline butter and caramel. These little creations are called Caramel Praline Wabbits. There are little bunny ears etched into the shells. So cute. OK, we’re done admiring the thing, let’s eat.

You can get lost at Carol’s Quality Sweets; not only is there plenty of chocolate on hand, but lots of confections from around the world. Soda pop you can’t find at grocery stores. Fruit drops from the United Kingdom. And, you can get a Belgian dark chocolate Field Bunny.

So, when does a chocolate bunny become art? The Caramel Corn Bunny from St. Albert’s Compass Chocolates looks like something Jackson Pollock would have created, had Jackson Pollock been a chocolatier. The splashes of colour are brilliant. Caramelized milk chocolate and gluten-free crunchy corn cereal give this a buttery flavour. Of course you’re not giving this to your kids.
