Co-founder, Meuwly’s: Director, The Public Food Hub
Age 31
Meuwly’s co-founder Peter Keith remembers certain foods: the hearty Korean bulgogi his mother used to make, jars of mustard he didn’t favour as a kid, and quick-and-easy dinners he made as he started business school.
Going back to the University of Alberta for his MBA degree was not the easiest decision to make — Keith started working in the kitchen at the age of 14, and being a chef has always been his dream job.
“At first, I felt like I turned away from my long-time identity,” says Keith. “But it didn’t take me that long to combine my new ideas formed in business school with my love for food.”
Through all the time he had to reflect on his passion for food, Keith now realizes he’s more of a community builder — when he came back to Edmonton after some travelling, Keith didn’t cook as much as he used to, but found Edmonton had become a hub for food makers and producers.
“There are chefs in the city that are miles ahead of me, but the most intriguing part for me about food has always been the hospitality. It’s about making something nice and serving it to people in the community.”
