Why She’s Top 40
She is using her legal training — and her enthusiasm and curiosity — to build the future of Edmonton with Rohit Group
Age: 39
Coleen Smith uses her law degree and training in ways you might not expect. She’s a legal operations manager with Rohit Group, and is involved in traditional legal areas like governance and contract compliance. She’s involved in decision-making and project development, and ensures that jobs align with the company’s mission; they’re developed creatively and stay financially efficient.
“Legal operations is the hub of information at the company,” she says.
Smith loves working in Edmonton, a new city compared to her birthplace of Glasgow. “Rohit is constructing buildings to stand the test of time, and create history in the city,” she adds. The company focuses on urban landscapes through land, housing, infrastructure and commercial development. “We’re building for the future.”
She has had a hand in creating the My Rohit Home app, which allows people to search home inventories and complete purchase of a home through the app. “This is a first in Alberta,” she says. “I’m proud to be part of its success.” The app was a finalist in the 2026 ASTech Awards.
Outside the office, Smith is an organizer of Sherwood Park’s Terry Fox Run, which in 2025 raised $51,000 for cancer research. “Giving back to our community through a cause that affects everyone is important,” she says.
Some would describe her path to success as unconventional. “I don’t have a wealth of education, or a robust business network of movers and shakers,” she says. “I still feel like a new immigrant.”
But she’s curious, enthusiastic, a good listener and an unapologetic people pleaser. “If you aren’t this way, surround yourself with people who are,” she says.
Smith is grateful for friends and colleagues who’ve helped her navigate her path. Her goal is to pay that forward.
“I hope that one day I can be that tailwind for someone else.”
