Why He’s Top 40
He works in pharmacy with vulnerable patients — and he is creating a global hip hop media brand
Age: 37
By day, Andrew Noh is a pharmacist and director of clinical operations at Radius Community Health and Healing. He works with Edmonton’s underserved patients to strengthen equitable care for people facing complex barriers like poverty, precarious housing and substance use to ensure they can access support from service providers. “We’re invested in building systems to reduce barriers and connect clients with the services they need,” he says.
Outside pharmacy, he makes connections of a different kind — between Korean hip hop artists and global fans. Noh is the creator of HiphopKR, an online multimedia hub with more than 300,000 followers of Korean hip hop bands. HiphopKR’s Instagram videos earn millions of views.
“Korean culture continues to grow in popularity,” he says. So does his platform. He has covered artists at festivals from Coachella to SXSW and at concerts around the world.
Noh got hooked on the genre, crediting Tablo, the singer for Korean Hip Hop group Epik High. “He’s from Canada and a lot of his lyrics are English. That drew me in,” Noh says. “I covered their show in Vancouver and met them — they were appreciative of HiphopKR and how it allowed global fans to connect.”
Starstruck, that support gave him the courage to push further. “Now I connect with fans, artists and the music industry.” Noh has plans to build HiphopKR — maybe even producing a Korean Hip Hop and R&B music festival one day.
“I identify gaps, build practical systems and create access where it did not exist before,” he says. This applies to health care and hip hop.
